Äntligen! Lite båge åkande också. Jag drog iväg runt klockan 8 hemifrån och tog sikte norrut längst med kusten. Målet för dagen var att glida runt med den lite mer detaljplanen att eventuellt åka ön runt. Bågen, en Triumph Bonneville var rätt perfekt för ändamålet. Det finns inte speciellt många vägar på ön och samtliga är asfalterade och har oftast runt 35 mph (56 km/h) som hastighetsbegränsning. Lite lagom för en klassisk brittisk hoj att glida runt på.
Solen sken och landskapet var fantastiskt. Jag åkte förbi strand efter strand. Den ena med större vågor, den andra med längre vågor och den trejde med mer naturliv. Det var härligt att bara glida omkring och se surfare paddla ut bland massiva vågor.
På Hawaiis västra spets så skär en bergsformation av ön. För att komma över på andra sidan, som ligger ca 1 km bort, så behöver man åka ner till Pearl City för att åka upp igen. En liten omväg på ca 9 mil. Jag åkte istället över till östra sidan för att se om familjen var hemma och om någon av barnen ville åka lite. Dom var dock nere på stranden så jag hämtade upp extrahjälmen vi lånat och åkte längs med södra kusten mot waikiki.
På vägen dit så höll det på att gå illa. Jag hade spänt fast hjälmen på sadeln ordentlig men spännet hade vibrerat loss och helt plötsligt ramlar hjälmen ner från sadeln. Den sitt fortfarande fast så den börjar slå mot bakhjulet. Det är lite av mardrömsscenariot att den ska åka in och fastna i bakhjulet så att det låser sig. Jag lyckas dock blinka in och stanna innan det händer något värre. Övre kanten på hjälmen var helt bortskavd och däcket hade fått sina små märken.
Jag var lite stressad för att mc:n skulle lämnas tillbaka fulltankad och Honolulu och Waikiki är inte helt lättnavigerade. Alla gator på Hawaii heter ju nästan samma sak (Kalakaua/kailulani/kaiulani/kapahulu osv) och i Waikiki är de enkelriktade. Jag hann dock och hyrbilsfirman tog märkena på däcket och den förstöra hjälmen med en klackspark. Jag bytte mc:n mot en Jeep som vi skulle ha till dagen efter. Veckorna med vår husbil i Australien hade satt sina spår och jag försökte blinka med högra spaken. Att köra på höger sida satt däremot lite mer i ryggraden.
När jag kom hem så upptäckte jag lättad att Cissi och barnen hade hittat hem och hade haft en skön dag på stranden. Vi åkte iväg för att testa restaurangen Buzz’s Lanikai som vi blivit tipsad om från olika håll. Här ska nämligen både Obama och Clinton ha sina stamplatser. Det var dock fullt så vi bokade in torsdag istället och körde en storhandling i centrum, nu när vi hade bil, och sedan middag hemma.
